Many of the 70 immigrant and refugee attending Rogers Park’s Roger C. Sullivan High School enjoyed their first Thanksgiving celebration on Tuesday, November 22, 2021, as the Friends of Sullivan, in partnership with the Rogers Park Builders Group, hosted Sullivan’s Fifth annual Thanksgiving Celebration.

Thanksgiving BuffetThis year’s celebration was done during lunch period - and students enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving meal - turkey, stuffing and fixings, along with vegetarian sides donated by Ethiopian Diamond Restaurant and other sides provided by students and Friends of Sullivan volunteers.

Each of the two class periods heard a meaningful presentation - hosted by ESL Resource Coordinator Josh Cepeda - and comments from classmates, each offering words expressing that for which they are thankful.

The students home countries ranged from Myanmar, Syria and Sudan - and all expressed a common sentiment - we are thankful for our family, friends and our teachers. All expressed confidence and hope for their futures, thanks to the understanding and support they receive at Sullivan High School.

Friends of Sullivan thanks the many members of the Sullivan community for making this possible - including Cepeda, Principal Thomas, Friends of Sullivan volunteers Dr. Nora Rowley, Mike and Diane Pols, Rudy Lubov and the Rogers Park Builders Group whose generous contribution made this event possible.
